Latest reviews for the Olympus SP-560UZ have been posted

The latest reviews for the Olympus SP-560UZ have been posted online at the Australian review site PhotoReview.

The reviewer still rates the Panasonic FZ18 as a better camera. I had plans to purchase the same but I have read some discussions an postings online which express concerns about the FZ18's image quality so am still waiting for confirmation.

Is buying a camera so difficult ..... Fuji SD8000fd ... FZ18....Nikon D40

I have been planning to buy a digital camera for months now. I go trekking a lot, following nature trails so most of my photography will be related to scenery and wildlife. I would like to print photos up to sizes 16 X 20.

When I started looking out for a camera I had shortlisted the Canon S3 IS and the Sony DSC H2/H5. Things were settled and I was leaning towards the S3 IS. Around this time the Sony released the H7/H9 series. I waited for the reviews...and to say the least they were disappointing.

This led me to think that surely Canon also would have their upgrade to the S3 IS just round the corner. From what I had heard one cannot go wrong with a canon. Out comes the S5 IS the reviews of those are not too hot nor too bad.

Should I go for the S5 IS ???.

Then Fuji announce the Fuji SD8000fd which promises everything one would want in a camera. Panasonic too announce the FZ18 it appears that my worries have been solved. I just have too choose 1 out of the two. Early reviews of the FZ18 sound promising.

But alas things were too good to be true for me ...just when I had my heart set on a Panasonic FZ18 negative reports of it started coming in. Still waiting for some more reviews though.

Meanwhile the Nikon D40 has been tempting me to... :)

Tools I cannot live without

  1. Firefox - My favorite browser easy and fun to use. Its got lots of add-ons for you to customize it. Its fast and secure and offers IMO the best tabbed browsing.
  2. Google Chrome - My other browser qwhich is fast replacing firefox as my browser of choice.
  3. Google Bookmarks - Write once read anywhere (where you have a web access). Over a period of time one collects a lot of useful links previously I had to copy them and lug them around till Google happened. :)
  4. Notepad++ - My editor of choice
  5. ExamDiff - This is what I use to resolve my differences. It is free and light.

How do you retain leading spaces while reading from a file in UNIX? One way to do this is change the variable used to set the Internal Field Separator (IFS) in UNIX and set it to nothing.
