Why Peepli Live for me is a horror movie?
I saw the movie Peepli Live yesterday and it scared me.
Do not mis-understand me, I liked the the movie. It is a well made movie. The first time director Anusha Rizvi has done an admirable job she has her heart in the right place. It has a good script, well supported by actors rather than stars. It was good to see Raghubir Yadav again. For the thinking person Peepli Live is a movie which makes you think. Kudos to Aamir Khan for producing such a movie.
The reason Peepli Live scare me was because it was so real. For me journalism is one of the main pillars of a functioning democracy. It is a profession as noble as that of a doctor or a teacher and carries as much responsibility. A good and conscientious press will lead to a mature democratic society.
The way the movie has depicted the state of journalism in our society today is dis-comfortingly close to reality.
We are now living in an age of sponsored news, where personalities are created and destroyed by the media. News items are created , real issues thrown aside. Viewership and readership numbers are mantras of the new age media Gods.
The common man is being bombarded with deluge after deluge of useless information, often misleading and filled with half truths or worse devoid of truths.
I fervently hope it did prick some consciences in the world of Indian journalism.
The other thought that struck me was the divide between the two Indias.
More on this later

Is buying a camera so difficult ..... Fuji SD8000fd ... FZ18....Nikon D40
I have been planning to buy a digital camera for months now. I go trekking a lot, following nature trails so most of my photography will be related to scenery and wildlife. I would like to print photos up to sizes 16 X 20.
When I started looking out for a camera I had shortlisted the Canon S3 IS and the Sony DSC H2/H5. Things were settled and I was leaning towards the S3 IS. Around this time the Sony released the H7/H9 series. I waited for the reviews...and to say the least they were disappointing.
This led me to think that surely Canon also would have their upgrade to the S3 IS just round the corner. From what I had heard one cannot go wrong with a canon. Out comes the S5 IS the reviews of those are not too hot nor too bad.
Should I go for the S5 IS ???.
Then Fuji announce the Fuji SD8000fd which promises everything one would want in a camera. Panasonic too announce the FZ18 it appears that my worries have been solved. I just have too choose 1 out of the two. Early reviews of the FZ18 sound promising.
But alas things were too good to be true for me ...just when I had my heart set on a Panasonic FZ18 negative reports of it started coming in. Still waiting for some more reviews though.
Meanwhile the Nikon D40 has been tempting me to... :)

iMac, iPod, iPhone and i...
A lot has been written, debated, discussed some have also just cussed, but say what you want no one has been able to iGNORE Apple and its products.
As a brand it either became the "Apple of your i" or remained a "rotten apple" but Steve Jobs ensured that the apple was noticed and remains noticed ever since its comeback.
What is it about the products that get them noticed?
In my opinion it is the combination of two factors
As any engineer will know a simple design is the most difficult to create similarly I am sure any programmer will agree that a lot of thought goes into writing code that is simple and elegant.
The products were also blessed with flashy, glamorous and rock concert like releases to match it.
Apple has been lucky to have two geniuses behind these two factors
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Jobs
It has been interesting watching these two people with contrasting styles, one who has kept out of the limelight preferring to work behind the scenes and the other who seems to have been born for the limelight have teamed to produce some fantastic products. The common thing linking them is that both are said to be perfectionists.
All in all looking forward to some more rabbits to be pulled out by this duo of magicians from their hats.

- Great marketing to go with it.

- Steve Jobs - CEO Apple. The person whose keynote addresses have become major calendar events in themselves.
